Five Spice Raspberry Barbeque Sauce

2 Tbsp. sesame oil
2 cloves minced garlic
1 Tbsp. minced ginger root
1/2 c. rice vinegar
Juice of 1 lemon
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
2 Tbsp. tomato paste
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. five spice powder
1/4 c. pureed raspberries or 2 Tbsp. raspberry liqueur

Place sesame oil in a heavy sauce pan over low heat. Add garlic and ginger and sauté until they sizzle, about 1 to 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and whisk until smooth. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes stirring frequently. Make sure not to boil this sauce, as it will thicken very quickly.

This is a pretty intense sauce meant to be used more as a glaze to finish meats on the grill. It goes well with salmon, chicken and duck. The five spice powder is becoming more commonplace and can be found in most stores, but for sure in any Asian markets.

Yield: 1 1/4 cups.
